Beyond the Nuts and Bolts: Enhancements to the Catabolt Web Content Management Module
By Andrew Hay, Director of Software Engineering The value of web site content management is clear: it's easy to see value in refreshing your content as often as you like by swapping images and adding new content to your website. There's no need to learn HTML or open any HTML reference books when you have a handy, ready-to-use HTML editor at your fingertips. This type of interface makes updating web pages as easy as using Microsoft Word. Pop Art has implemented powerful web content management solutions for many clients, but we have recently added some new features that make Catabolt WCM Module even more robust.
One of the latest enhancements is called the Page Generator. This feature will help you create a new web page using the custom template built exclusively by Pop Art for your web site. Previously, WCM was limited to existing pages only, and programmer support was required to create a new page. Now, you have the ability create new web pages that extend your website using the Catabolt WCM tools. First, you choose the name of your new page by entering a page name like "myNewPage.aspx". Next, you enter your title tag and meta tag information to help organic search engines index your page. Finally, you edit the custom template Pop Art has created for you, just like you've always done with the Catabolt WCM module. You can add a new page to your site every day or every hour - as often as you like!
Another exciting enhancement is called Page Versioning. This functionality enables you to create multiple versions of a single page. Then, you can safely edit a page over a period of hours, days or weeks without publishing it to your public website. This valuable feature enables you to do a couple of important things that will ensure your website renders a consistent and well branded message to your visitors: first, you can implement an approval process to make sure your web pages maintain an appropriate look and feel and second, you can keep seasonal versions of your pages without re-inventing the wheel.
Since all of these tools are browser-based, it's still just as easy whether you are using Catabolt WCM in the office or if you're using your laptop while traveling. We're not done yet - this is just the beginning of several enhancements planned for the summer of 2004. Please stay tuned for more on the evolution of Catabolt. |
