Force Fate

Hockey was one of the most anticipated and viewed events of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver BC. To support Canadian home team heroes, Wieden+Kennedy New York (W+K NY) recommended Nike Canada offer a trio of Facebook applications to its enthusiastic hockey-obsessed-teen fans. W+K NY teamed up with Pop Art to build Fate Photo, Podium Props and the Manifesto Video Generator.

The Challenge

Deliver a series of three Facebook applications to deepen fans relationship with Nike Canada’s brand, inspiring their fan base while providing fans the ability to do things that had never been done on Facebook before.

Strategy

Live the Brand: Let Nike Canada fans digitally post their image to see themselves wearing a “Team Canada” jersey, experience a virtual podium, share with friends, and send “Bring home the gold” messages for nighttime projection in Vancouver.

Results

The fan base exploded from 6,000 to nearly 27,000. Hundreds of images were shared, and messages projected on site. The Nike Canada brand was promoted by friends and "user generated videos" broadcast to a global audience.
