Winning a Powerball jackpot is a life-changing event, but that doesn't mean you have to think of only yourself when spending your untold riches. In order to find out how Oregonians would help the state if they won — and to help build a general sense of benevolence about lottery winnings — we launched the If I Win program.
The site lets users view pledges submitted by fellow Oregonians about how they would improve the state. Whether it's donating to a charity, setting aside land for a new park or launching a business, you can find it at If I Win.
Users can enter in pledges from a variety of places, including Twitter and our paid-media banner advertisements. While these pledges are then visible to the user who wrote them, they are then dumped into a queue where a moderator can vet them.
Thanks to extensive paid and social media efforts, the site has garnered visits from all over the state. Most of these users have stuck around too, as our average time on site is several times the web average, especially for what is essentially a single-page site.
